
…If we truly want to achieve climate neutrality, we must change our behavior in all these aspects of life. This is because the appropriate technologies that would allow us to maintain our standard of living in a carbon-neutral way simply do not exist yet. This means that carbon prices must rise significantly in order to push people to change their behaviors. Another (or perhaps complementary) option is for regulatory legislation to become considerably stricter. I know that “ecological dictatorship” is a miserable word. But we must wonder whether and to what extent we should be willing to accept some form of “ecological dictatorship” (in the form of legislation) in order to move towards climate neutrality…
Should we wonder? Ecology had started differently; but then capitalism was “dirty”. Now specific sectors and bosses are rushing to “go green”, in order to outdo their competitors. Will they stick to dictatorships? Or to “ecologically” concentration camps?
