The “new normal” has many “new” things. It is a “Pandora’s container” according to the specifications of the 4th industrial revolution. And the deadly naivety with which genetic engineering was accepted into the very human bodies will be the argument for the generalized “exploitation” of mutations…
The discussion about genetically modified trees has been going on for several years now. It stems (what else?) from the “environmental concerns” of the bosses. Forests are in danger, they face major threats (fires, diseases) and we must find solutions is the motto.
Touching! In 2018, the then American administration, following a request from “institutional saviors” (no, they’re not front men!), of the kind American Forest Foundation, National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine etc., created a committee to examine whether biotechnologies can reduce threats to forest tree health. The experiments and patents of “resistant trees” had of course preceded it: it goes without saying that technologists can!!!
Forests, in the vast majority of cases, self-regulate and regenerate on their own, even after fires. They are far older on this planet than biotechnologies and geneticists! But no: the engineering of everything knows no bounds (until we manage to reorganize and counterattack… but how late will that be?), just as there are no bounds to profiting through ownership of life forms.
After this year’s wildfires in various regions of the planet, it is our duty to prevent the advance of the “new forests”….
