actroids

Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro is the director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University in Japan.

The laboratory deals with the construction of humanoid robots with particular emphasis on facial movement and expressions, so that they resemble a living human being as much as possible. The robots that mimic human movements and reactions are called Actroids.

In the photograph, Professor Ishiguro (which one of the two?) with the robot he created “in his own image and likeness.” The perfectly anthropomorphic machine is able to observe the professor’s movements and copy them.
