Although the UN (a creation of the winners of World War II) long ago went bankrupt as a peacemaker, at least its bureaucrats, now in the “final” phase of the institution, can occupy themselves with the “ethics” of weapons.

The reason? The Russian military appears to have begun deploying “autonomous weapons” on the Ukrainian battlefield… Or, so as not to poison the concept of autonomy, “artificial-intelligence weapons that decide on their own.” Mainly rocket launchers and light armored vehicles.
It was supposed that the prospect of “weapons that kill on their own” (without synchronized human operators) marked the limit of First-World technological “ethics”—and this only because drones remotely piloted from bases in the USA that bombed weddings and funerals in Afghanistan were deemed “ethical.” Yet the recent uproar probably stems from the fact that it is the Russian army that is first displaying its lack of morality (with or without quotation marks).
If only it were American or some allied one, these issues would be resolved… Oh, what this morality has to endure…
