The site iknowwhereyourcatlives.com is an online page – a project by a professor at the University of Florida. It displays a world map with little cats at the spot where each photo was taken. The cat photos are collected from social networks such as Flickr or Instagram, where they are publicly accessible. According to the information given on the “I know where your cat lives” page, there are currently 15 million publicly posted photos tagged “cat” on social networks. For this project, one million of these cat photos that include metadata with the location where the shot was taken (latitude and longitude) have been analyzed. This happens very easily, for example if the smartphone taking the photo has its GPS turned on.
Google cat as in google map? If they manage to train cats to use the app themselves, it will be a leap not for mankind but for pets…
