The title is provocative… Marx could not have known anything about gain-of-function research! He could not have known (or even imagined) the specific relationships between militarism, capitalist technology, and social organization in the 21st century! However, he had the foresight and analytical intelligence to understand certain aspects of the general relationship between military organization (and the conduct of war) on one hand, and social organization on the other, across various and different historical periods.
For example, in a footnote in the Grundrisse, he observes:
War was shaped before peace: the way certain economic relations, such as wage labor, machinery, etc., developed through war and within armies, etc., earlier than within civil society. And the relationship between productive forces and relations of exchange is particularly clear in the army.
In a letter to Engels (September 25, 1857) he notes:
The history of the army demonstrates more vividly than anything else the correctness of our understanding of the relationship between productive forces and social relations. The army was generally significant for economic development. In ancient times, for example, the wage relationship was first fully shaped in the army. Similarly, among the Romans, the peculium castrense represented the first legal form recognizing movable property ownership by those who were not heads of households. Likewise, the first large-scale use of mechanical equipment. Even the special value of metals and their use as money appears to have initially been based on their military significance. Also, the division of labor within a branch was first implemented in armies. Moreover, here the entire history of political societies is summarized very strikingly.
Neither Marx nor Engels supported the idea that the organization of the army and its general characteristics constitute the model for social organization. Rather, there exists a dialectical relationship between them, one that allows us to identify in militarism “pioneering elements” (organizational, ideological, technological) which at a later time will be “socialized”. (We know, for example, the history of electronic networking – the internet…)
Moreover, the fact that the American DARPA is clearly behind a large portion of the funding for genetic/biotechnological “research” and gain-of-function “experiments”, some of which have already been “socialized” through mass platformization, requires us to examine whether serious elements of capitalist (and not merely technological) “pioneering” can be identified in its declarations, at the historical phase we are currently experiencing.
At the presentation of the PREEMPT program (: preventing emerging pathogenic threats) in early 2018, immediately after the restart of gain-of-function “research” on hepatitis, a program that essentially redefined the general direction of manipulation and ultimately the weaponization of viruses but also the colonization of human bodies, darpa said:
U.S. military forces are deployed in remote areas throughout the world, often in regions where emerging infectious diseases are common. The PREEMPT program aims to maintain military readiness by protecting against the threat of infectious diseases; however, instead of treating people, PREEMPT targets viral pathogens within their animal sources and the insects that carry them, where many illnesses originate, before these [viruses] spread to humans. The program combines biosurveillance and standardization through innovative technologies to manage and control high-risk pathogens at their source, in order to prevent the emergence and re-emergence of threats from human pathogens.
… By focusing on deep biosurveillance of animal sources and vector insects, and applying molecular technologies and next-generation technologies for sequence analysis to identify which viruses will develop within which species, PREEMPT seeks to identify opportunities for interventions that will exploit evolutionary bottlenecks and transmission factors that allow pathogen species to jump.
Two important positions are declared within these two paragraphs. The second one (with the interventions that will utilize…) is phrased periphrastically as the position regarding gain-of-function “research” (and applications!!!) that transcends “evolutionary constraint” (the evolutionary limits of pathogens, so to speak) through the creation of pathogenic chimeras… This refers to what we presented in the previous report (humans and bats) – and much more that could not fit into it.
The first position is equally central: with this program, DARPA declares that it “is not interested in treatment”! What does this mean? Has it begun its “socialization”? Is what is called “healthcare” as it is globally industrialized undergoing a phase of radical Paradigm Change, right before our eyes but (still) far from our awareness?
Any treatment is a medical action taken after the fact. That is, after something first appears that is (or is considered) a health problem. The entire structure of what we know as the “health system” has been built around treatment, as well as everything we have experienced in the two phases of medicine so far—first clinical, and increasingly today, laboratory-based: tests, etc.
But the organization of treatment can be seen (and this is already happening, albeit quietly…) as a precise activity within capitalist societies. It requires the maintenance of large and complex mechanisms in constant readiness—from buildings (hospitals, laboratories) to the necessary equipment (diagnostic, interventional), and from the full range of medical and paramedical specialties to ambulances and the relevant state bureaucracy, and so on—even in the absence of any serious illness or major public health issue! All of this (let’s emphasize: the organization of treatment) becomes even more “expensive” (and even more demanding) under conditions of war: from the transport of patients (soldiers) under combat conditions, to field hospitals that must constantly relocate as close as possible to the battle lines.
When darpa, the high-tech military arm of the USA, says “instead of treatment… let’s get into the sources of pathogens so we can manipulate them there, at their sources,” it is proposing a radical revision, a radical restructuring of what “health protection” means: not afterwards (something that is expensive under peaceful conditions, always complex, and difficult under war conditions), but beforehand… if we manage to “divert,” to “neutralize” pathogenic factors…1
Or perhaps this second idea, this “diverting… neutralizing… beforehand…” is just a smokescreen? The experts at darpa know well: it is impossible to identify which virus, which microbe hosted by this or that animal will mutate when and how to become a “pathological threat” to our species!!! This is simply impossible: you can’t interrogate microorganisms to “confess” their future plans!!!
On the contrary, what can actually happen is that such viruses and microbes may be harvested from their natural hosts, transferred to biotechnology laboratories, genetically modified there (scientifically “mutated”), and their “effectiveness” tested… First in the lab and subsequently… …perhaps… … in vivo.
Therefore, what darpa is proposing is this: we are not interested in treatment… we are interested in producing illness; a production of illness which we attribute, theoretically and probabilistically, to viruses, but which we, in reality, undertake to create ourselves. Of course, darpa does not intend to make American soldiers sick or/and destroy them! It intends to make enemies sick or/and destroy them; and, possibly, to find antidotes (preventively, preferably) against similar actions by adversaries.
This is called biological warfare.
Can we now consider this militaristic approach as “pioneering”, as generally socializable? If we were speaking until 2019, we would do so largely theoretically. Not since then and after! Indeed, the doctrine does not interest us in treatment… we are interested in the production of illness, which spilled out quickly and universally, from military plans to capitalist biopolitics from 2020 onwards! Indeed, not only was Marx confirmed, but also several others, later ones – who, of course, were marginalized during the terror campaign.
The most impressive proof that we don’t care about treatment (of those who fell ill from Sars-CoV-2) is the fact that indeed, they didn’t care about treatment!!! They showed it in every possible way!
A. The western “experts” and western demagogues rejected with disgust the persistent and repeated attempts by Chinese doctors (the infection in Wuhan had preceded by at least two months) to demonstrate that there were (in China but not only) traditional gentle methods of treatment, through the suppression of the infection at point X (we will remind later what this is) and through the enhancement of the natural immune system. For reasons (the analysis of which far exceeds the capabilities of this report) the Chinese state/capital retained the “old model” of healthcare, the one with central emphasis on treatment.
This despite the fact that videos had been transmitted around the planet showing the rapid construction (in Wuhan) not of large hospitals (with the complexity that a hospital entails), but of large centers for gentle treatment.
B. They slandered and quickly banned and punished (the same “experts” and demagogues) the minority of Western doctors who insisted that there are mild treatments (expressing serious opposition to mRNA genetic engineering platforms). The result was, perhaps for the first time in the official history of Western medicine, that extensive “illegal”/underground treatment networks were created in various Western states!
G. They “prohibited” / eliminated a part of the human body, the one we called the “X-spot”!! It concerns the nasal-pharyngeal and oral-pharyngeal cavity, the “conduit” of human breathing. For centuries upon centuries, generations upon generations, it was common knowledge, social (but ultimately medical) that airborne infections were dealt with (and in the vast majority of cases) there!
But no! This was a therapeutic tactic that was prohibited. Instead, what was imposed was the idea of a body that only has an opening (: nostrils and mouth…) which must be blocked (: masks…) and immediately afterwards has the lungs… Where if there is a problem (infection…) the “solution” is … compressed air (: intensive care…)
From an anthropological and ultimately political perspective, this mass ideological castration is horrifying!! However, it is consistent with the fact that we do not care about treatment… Because “if treatment does not matter” then neither do its methods nor the healable body.
D. They created a vague, foggy idea of what “contamination” means from a simple airborne virus, sometimes leaving it to be implied and other times stating it clearly, that it is something deadly. This psyop / terrorism certainly aimed to boost the anticipation of “new technology vaccines” as salvation. However, in doing so, they quite cunningly created yet another confusion. The idea that “vaccination during an ongoing pandemic” is “prevention”! Whereas, in reality, it is a push for any virus to mutate faster (: immune escape…)
Rejection is easy, but not for us. A radical transformation is indeed underway, concerning the health/disease duality, bodies, and the (former) medical and (current) sickness-industry-in-the-making.
This does not mean that the specifications of DARPA and similar organizations are directly transferred into social meaning and organization. It does mean, however, that we already have considerable theory, ideology, and practice of this transformation before us. For example, the idea of transforming the body into a “pharmaceutical-biological factory,” an idea implemented through mRNA platforms, is also a DARPA idea: the REACT program. And this idea is an application of transcending therapy, since therapy always meant enhancing the body’s natural capacities. But no. The cancellation of the natural immune system and its “replacement” by bio-electronic micro-particles and synthetic biology, on one hand shapes the ideal (supposedly invulnerable) soldier; and on the other ensures the permanent and lasting dependence of bodies on industry, its owners and shareholders, and its genetic engineers.
DARPA’s idea (and program) also includes Living Foundries. The “living foundries,” or put differently, the mutated living cells/bodies that produce “valuable” proteins on behalf of third parties2.
Let us remember that this has already happened. The preventive medical method that was created and used extensively throughout the 20th century under the name vaccine had a very specific logic: introducing into the body a weakened, harmless virus, so that the immune system would recognize it as a foreign body and produce antibodies; acquiring a know-how of immediate response/neutralization for the future, in case the normal (pathogenic) virus would attack the body. In this logic, the probability of the body becoming ill due to the introduction of the weakened, harmless virus was considered a failure (and potentially dangerous failure) of the vaccine, due to some errors in its preparation: insufficient weakening, neutralization of the virus…
For the geneticists of mRNA platforms, the logic (if this word can be used) is exactly the opposite! The goal is to introduce into the body the pathogenic part of a virus, in such a way that it attacks the body (the cells) and the body begins to get sick; so that (this is called “science”!!!) the immune system reacts (if it can and if it has time). In other words, while with vaccines the disease was a misfortune, it was not the goal at all, it was considered a failure, with mRNA platforms the disease is the goal, the pursuit, the success… This was the main reason that from the beginning we supported that mRNA platforms are NOT vaccines but their opposite; and that 21st century capitalism through geneticists and pharmaceutical mafiosi became the main “anti-vaccination” current, destroying/distorting the concept of artificial prevention of viral diseases. It does not care about health, health is not profitable. It cares about the steady and permanent mass production of illness.
It has been proven in practice that the crime is much greater. Each dose of mRNA platform contains hundreds of millions of “nanolipids”, which are the transport packages of the artificial viral RNA, which infects the cells; a quantity hundreds of times greater than the common infection with the natural virus. Moreover, while the natural Sars-CoV-2 follows a specific pathway through the respiratory tract, during which the immune system neutralizes it in the vast majority of healthy individuals BEFORE it reaches the lung cells (remember: it was designed to anchor even more easily in those…), after the injection into the arm of hundreds of millions of “nanolipids” with the artificial pathogenic RNA, these hundreds of millions of RNA (as if we were saying: the infectious weapons…) spread very quickly through the circulatory system (arteries and veins) throughout the body, simultaneously and very rapidly infecting the cells of dozens of different organs!
This is a multiple attack on the body, real as a possibility but extremely rare under natural conditions!!! The immune system does react, of course, but in a state of literal shock, as many parts of the body and many organs are simultaneously and instantly infected/affected. It is forced into a violent overreaction that can escalate to what is called a cytokine storm: the simultaneous and diffuse effort of the immune system (of T and NK cells) to neutralize the diffusely infected cells in many organs (from the mRNA platforms) causes simultaneous and scattered inflammations, which can kill the body.
Even if the cytokine storm is avoided, even if the multiple and diffuse infections do not lead to hyper-inflammation, the immune system will kill (or try to kill) the infected cells everywhere, causing damage to various organs, especially those where the cells either do not regenerate (heart) or regenerate sparsely over the course of a lifetime. This leads to the development of autoimmune diseases (the immune system permanently turns against the cells of the same organism) and/or permanent incurable conditions (myocarditis/pericarditis) and/or extremely aggressive cancers, since in this “total war” the immune system becomes unbalanced and no longer prevents the development of cancerous cells.
We therefore have: the old method, gentle, careful and effective, the vaccine, which aimed to stimulate the production of antibodies without risk to the body; and the “new method”, which aims at infection, illness, disrupts the immune system (thus making the body permanently dependent on external “interventions”), and depending on the amount of nanolipids, can even kill immediately.
Marx could not have predicted this. Yet it is his own methodology that allows us to accurately understand and analyze what capitalist control over social (and natural) reproduction means. Such control is compelled to also be militaristic.
