The Invisible Campaign

In our territories, these are completely indifferent matters; what are serious are the political buffooneries and the everyday trivialities. In other societies they have begun to understand the seriousness of the issue; even if that full and complex “middle social conscience” that will impose the necessary restrictions, and above all will ensure their continuous validity, has not yet been formed.

The issue of personal data. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook (whose company is central to the collection of such data) was not exaggerating when he stated publicly last October that the information about each and every one of us—from our everyday actions to the most private thoughts we express—is being turned into weapons that target us with military precision.

If until yesterday the naïve and innocent surrender of everyone’s personal data took place under the shadow of surveillance, where each person answered (foolishly) “but I have nothing to hide,” now we are no longer talking simply about surveillance. We are talking about manipulation. And this manipulation, which starts with profiling (through the exploitation of personal data) and ends in “personalized” offers, services and advertisements, is not yet considered a danger. It is considered “convenience” or “service”…

How many generations and how many millions will live and die, all smiles and clueless, in the 21st century, without ever noticing the gun pressed to their heads, firing “informational” rounds in long bursts?
