The Japanese “Astro Live Experiences” (ALE) wants to be the first to offer (for a fee) “artificial star showers” – the Perseids or shooting stars, which when they fall naturally one can gaze at on August nights.
The company has already leased an artificial satellite, launched last month. It will launch another six. Each satellite carries 400 “pellets” that, according to the company, are enough for 20 to 30 shows. The “pellets” released into the atmosphere to “burn up” during their trajectory will leave colorful trails: green, blue and violet. According to ALE’s CEO, Hiroki Kajihara, “… compared with natural meteorites, ours are far more numerous and move more slowly through the atmosphere, which allows them to remain visible for longer.”
Something like “atmospheric fireworks.” Why not? In the future these “balls” will have to write the name of whoever paid for the spectacle across the night sky. Because, of course, there will be plenty of uninvited, freeloading spectators at the shows: if you’re going to celebrate your wedding or your birthday with “rain from the sky,” everyone might as well know who you are.
To wish you…
