Genetic mutations with the tone

The company made its debut in Brazil in 2013: it created, sold and released a sterilized version of the Aedes aegypti mosquito with the purpose of intensively reducing their population so that they would not transmit dangerous viruses. The (British) biotech Oxitec proved to be multiple times more dangerous itself: what it achieved was to produce genetically modified Frankenstein mosquitoes – as a Yale study showed in detail (more in “the sterilization of flies”, cyborg 16, October 2019).

What significance however do the failures and disasters that “scientific progress” sows in its path have when there are strong shoulders to bear them? Oxitec is supported (again this one?) by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation… Consequently, it secured a new contract for the same project, this time in the American heartland. In Florida. The permit that was granted is (for the types) for experimental use – but you know what these “temporary” things mean…

The residents of the area where Oxitec will release tens of thousands of genetically modified mosquitoes are reacting… They say they know that the “experiment” failed elsewhere, and that they don’t want to become human guinea pigs… The response they get is jaw-dropping (and familiar): Are you experts? Since you’re not, shut up!!! Old fogies!!! (In truth: this is the response in Florida…)

That’s how the plan goes; the 4th industrial revolution cannot be accelerated if everyone has an opinion and, moreover, wants it to be taken into account…

Occupation was what it was called – now?
