If you think that this tractor-like-rubber object among the (Chinese) policemen has been arrested, you are mistaken. It is their newest tech-colleague!
The police robot (built by Zhejiang University) was created in this form to overcome the shortcomings of robotic (police) dogs. “It doesn’t break,” it doesn’t tip over, and of course it is well equipped: it communicates with a base, blares like a loudspeaker (“disperse or you’ll be floored…”), has facial-recognition cameras, can easily move into a crowd, and fires tear-gas spray…
We have no doubt about the practical spirit of the Chinese state/capital and its technicians. Yet, does it have such a serious public-order problem that it needs such (rather expensive) accessories? Or is it offering them to the international market?
