Guardian angels

Since 2019, American legislation has allowed insurance companies to adjust premiums based on the data they collect about their clients from their social media posts. “It’s a simple upgrade,” say government and business officials, “of what already happens when you take out a private life insurance policy: you’ll be asked about your habits. Other risks—for the insurer—come with the hobby of rock climbing, and others with the hobby of couch surfing.”

Correct… But now no one will be able to fool their insurance by pretending to be a floor! A photograph with a cigarette and drink at a casino (how many such selfies don’t flood the cyber space?); and immediately the “bad habits” are brought to the attention of the authorities.

The three, four neoliberal decades of the doctrine “the customer is always right” are over! Now only companies have the right. It is their own, all-encompassing right: they create it, they impose it. And to whoever likes it…

(In the end, “the client’s right” was a political means of controlling work, especially in services. Now that this control can be done mechanically, such “right” is no longer needed… Now the client is also being controlled…)
