Before you rush to condemn those who came up with the idea, take a look at the competition’s criteria:
– just like in regular beauty pageants, “beauty” (in appearance only) as well as the answers to various questions will be the first criterion… For the “character” of the digital model…
– the second criterion will be the quality of the use of “tools”, i.e. the complex algorithms, by the technicians / model makers. Particular attention will be paid to the “gaze” and to the “hand movements” whose digital representation is still considered difficult…
– the third criterion will be the influence on (anti)social media of each competing digital model… (Given that such influence can be bought by the kilo, obviously this will be a budget contest…)
For the (not few) victims of modern Spectacle, such a contest should hold some interest. Even greater interest, we reckon, lies in the generalized production of “perfect” avatars by the audience: a technologically upgraded second life, so to speak.
We have already entered the era of constructing and trading “realities” (the word is in quotation marks). It is hard to understand what this means, but…
